Is your family taking a trip to the Big Apple this summer? We know there’s so much to see and so little time, but below are some great tips on enjoying all the highlights in Times Square from the New Yorkers here at BR Guest!
9:00am: You have a busy day ahead, so be sure to eat a breakfast that will give you lasting energy. Blue Fin, located in the heart of Times Square, offers a wide selection of smoothies, eggs, and sweet treats sure to satisfy even the pickiest palettes. Make a reservation by calling 212.918.1400 or by booking a table online here.
10:30am: Before you get moving, take a second with your sweetheart to recreate Alfred Eisenstaedt’s V-J Day photo of an American sailor kissing a woman upon hearing that WWII had ended. Sure, it’s cheesy, but you know you want to do it anyway….
11:00am: It’s time to shop! Visit Macy’s flagship store in Herald Square for an experience you’ll never forget. Seeing the world’s largest shoe floor is historic too… right? Afterwards, head over to Times Square’s megastores like Toys ‘R’ Us or M&M World to grab some treats for yourself and maybe even your friends back home.
1:00pm: You’re hungry, but you also want to know more about New York City’s rich history – what should your next move be? You can kill two birds with one stone at the matinee performance of “How 2 B A New Yorker”. The comedy show will keep you laughing and learning as you enjoy a full Italian lunch.
3:00pm: Soak up the sun in Bryant Park. Take a ride on the carousel (it’s only $3!), or simply relax in the grass. Though the park is picturesque, put your smartphone aside and grab some supplies from the Art Cart to draw the view yourself! Not an artist? Brush up your golf skills at the park’s putting green, free of charge.
5:00pm: 5pm only means one thing to busy New Yorkers – happy hour! If your group is 21+, get in a “New York State of Mind” with Social Hour at Strip House 44. Enjoy locally sourced beers, wines and cocktails while mingling in one of NYC’s premiere steakhouses. Book a table now by clicking here.
6:00pm: If you’re going to the theater, you’re going to need dinner somewhere that gets you’re in a rush. At Ruby Foo’s, pan-Asian dishes are served family style so everyone can easily share, and there’s a special pre-theater menu designed to satisfy your appetite and make sure you get to the theater on time! Call 212.489.5600 for a table or click here to book a reservation online.
8:00pm: Of course, no journey to New York City is complete without a Broadway show. Right now, our favorites are Book of Mormon, Kinky Boots, and The Lion King. You’ll be singing your favorite numbers for the rest of the trip!
Travelling with kids? Be sure to visit the Silver Towers Playground on 42nd Street between 10th and 11th Avenues. The playground is a functional sculpture designed by Tom Otterness and definitely a changeup from anything your kids have seen before!
Rain getting in the way? Lucky Strike and Bowlmor are two great bowling alleys in the area that will keep you entertained (and dry) despite the rain.
You’ll surely be tired, but we hope you’ll remember your visit to Times Square forever. Be sure to check websites for special deals and make reservations ahead of time where necessary to ensure smooth sailing throughout the day!
